Wing-stem fragrant granadilla Passionflower Passiflora alata
Passiflora alata, the wing stem passionflower, also known as the fragrant granadilla, is native from Brazil, and is grown in many warm areas in the world. The evergreen leaves of the wing-stem passionflower are entire, and may reach up to 6 in long (15 cm) and 4 in wide (10 cm). The fragrant flowers are extremely showy with their crimson blooms with purple and white filaments.
The wing-stem passion fruit is an ovoid golden to orange fruit. These fruits are about 4 in (10 cm) long. They are edible and very popular where available.
This passionflower is not very hardy, but may withstand about 28°F (-2°C) frosts. -
